In the last few years, the number of inhalation devices available in the market has grown tremendously, which requires clinicians to maintain familiarity with all of these devices, so pharmacologic therapy can be individualized for all COPD patients. Given the increased complexity of inhaler management, including patient selection and counseling on inhaler technique, as well as the well-recognized importance of adherence in COPD management, the pharmacist is uniquely positioned to have a significant impact on the achievement of positive outcomes in these patients, especially readmission rates.
